Hello! We are Sotiria and Elisa, studying education and development respectively at the university of Jyväskylä, Finland. A long way from home, we are doing our internship at the Thai organization Women’s Education for Advancement and Empowerment (WEAVE).

As volunteers, we are placed in Mae See Pee Tai (MSPT), a small village in the North of Thailand. It is located in Khun Yuam’s district, close to the border with Burma. Around 90 families live here. They are part of the highly disadvantaged “hill-tribes”, and it’s hard for them to find a way out of poverty. Our duties in the village consist of teaching English to primary and kindergarten students as well as engaging with the locals in the framework of community outreach.
